Budgeted Children Shoes

In 2015, I was looking for good quality ( velcro – easy to wear, PVC surfaced – easy to clean, thick cushion for comfort & support) & afforable (less then $20) school shoes for my toddler. I looked around but noticed such school shoes usually cost around $30. As such, I procrastinated to buy them for awhile until when I visited Mustafa Center. Mustafa Center offers a wide range of school shoes and I found “Disney” branded school shoes fulfilled all my criteria. I immediately bought one pair and after wearing  it for about a year, it is still in good condition as shown in below picture (shoe sole didn’t wear off much, clean and undamaged appearance) as such I decided to go back and buy another pair for alternate usage.

Talking about children shoes, there is another place that sell good quality & afforable  prices shoes. It is Bata. They almost always have great disount for children shoes. I bought a “Bubblegummers” sandlers at 50% discount which cost me about $15. However, they usually have more discounted girl then boy shoes. Another place to get good quality & afforable children shoes is at Expo either Robinson/ John Little Sale. I bought a bundle of 3 pairs of “Fox” slippers for my son at $6. Another place which I recent found is the Decathlon located at Chai Chee Technopark, it offers children sport shoes for only $5. As such it is easy to get children shoes that fit into your budget if you just go to the right places.

Baby Immunisation Saving

After delivery, my baby needs to have immunisations to keep him away from various diseases. As such my husband and I choose to have baby immunisations taken at polyclinic. I am surprise to know that polyclinic don’t charge most of the immunisations such as HepB (against Hepatitis B), DTaP (against Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis) , OPV (against Poliovirus) and MMR (against Measles, Mumps, Rubella). And they only charge immunisations such as PCV (against Pneumococcal), Human Papillomavirus and Influenza. Even if they chargeable, you are able to pay them using Medisave and CDA accounts. That means you don’t need to fork out any physical cash for any of the immunisations.

I need to say that even thought the immunisations comes in a very affordable way. However, they didn’t comprise with their service standard. That impressed me. I booked an appointment for my baby immunisation. When I reached on time at the polyclinic, took a queue number by scanning my baby health booklet then waited for about 15 minutes to see the nurse for immunisation. After that I will pay for the chargeable immunisation at the payment counter. If I don't need to pay for any of the immunisation then I will go ahead to book an appointment for the next immunisation. All in all, it took me about 30 to 45 minutes per trip. For booking of appointment, I will try to book an appointment in the morning because I feel that the weather is cooler, more comfortable for the baby and less people queueing in front of me which I noticed that I am served faster.

Maternity Ward Saving

In 2012 for my 1st pregnancy, I choose to be ward into C ward because I use to sleep in a non-air con room and I don’t mind to share room with 5 others. When I was to be ward into C ward, the hospital actually upgraded me into B ward which is an air con and 6 bedded ward due to lack of C ward. As such I got the chance to experience the B ward. I don’t really enjoy it because it is an air con ward. After a night in the B ward, I was transferred to the C ward. It was much more comfortable for me as it was well ventilated. In total, I stayed for 4 days 3 nights.

In 2015 for my 2
nd pregnancy, again I choose to stay in a C ward. And again the hospital upgraded me to the B ward due to the same reason. But this time I wouldn’t mind that much because there was haze and was advised to stay in an air con room. As such I considered myself blessed to be upgraded. However, even if I am in a C ward, I believed that the hospital would take serious measures to ensure that their patients were well protected from the haze. This time I only stay for 2 days 1 night. Both deliveries were vaginal births and I only paid C ward rates.

In these two stays, I am thankful that I am able to use my husband medisave to pay for all the maternity ward expenses. We didn’t exceed the capped medisave amount that was allowed for us to use. As such in all, we received a cash refund of about $700 for each stay. You may visit
Medisave Maternity Package for more information regarding the cash refund. That will help you to save some money.
