In 2012, I
am pregnant with my first child. One of my friend who is a doctor in the public
clinic suggested me to be referred from his clinic to Kandang Kerbau Hospital
aka KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH) for regular pregnancy check up.
This is because at the point of time I am 27 years old and less likely to have any
complications during pregnancy that needs a specific doctor to attend to me. As
such I decided to take his advise.
To my surprise
during my first check up bill was being heavy subsidy by the government. It was
more than 50%. Wow great saving to me as I am just started out in my job after
graduated from the university. An average check up would cost me about $200 but
with the help of the government, it cost only about $100.
In
addition, my husband got a company privilege card that allows us to deduct
60% of the final bill from his Medisave as such we only pay cash 40% in cash (etc.
$100 X 0.4 = $40). I had about 9 check up during my pregnancy as such I had to
pay $40 X 9 = $360.
I was
fortunate enough to be selected for a research conducted by KKH and I received
$80 in cash. When I am again pregnant with my second child, I was again being selected
by KKH for another research that gave me $100 in cash. As such if you notice
any research conducted by the hospital, please join as they might be giving you
money.
In
conclusion my pregnant check up is about $360 - $80 = $280 which I believe is
one of the cheapest if not the cheapest in this city. However, there are
cons to it. You will have to wait for an average 3 hours in total per check up
cause there will be many people like me that wanted a affordable medical bill.
Another con is that you wouldn’t be able to chose a specific doctor to follow
up on your progress but so far I don’t have any bad experience when they are of
different doctors. As all the doctors and nurses that I experienced from my two
pregnancies are generally nice, kind and professional that makes my pregnancy an
enjoyable journey.
